What exactly is Digital Painting?
Digital painting is an emerging art form in which traditional painting techniques such as watercolor, oils, impasto, etc. are applied using digital tools by means of a computer, a digitizing tablet and stylus, and software. Digital painting differs from other forms of digital art, particularly computer-generated art, in that it does not involve the computer rendering from a model. The artist uses painting techniques to create the digital painting directly on the computer. All digital painting programs try to mimic the use of physical media through various brushes and paint effects. Included in many programs are brushes that are digitally styled to represent the traditional style like oils, acrylics, pastels, charcoal, pen and even media such as airbrushing.

Digital artists have at their disposal several tools not available to the traditional painter. Some of these include: a virtual palette consisting of millions of colors, almost any size canvas or media, and the ability to take back mistakes, as well as erasers, pencils, spray cans, brushes, combs, and a variety of 2D and 3D effect tools. A graphics tablet allows the artist to work with precise hand movements simulating a real pen and drawing surface. Even the traditional surface has changed for digital painting. Instead of a canvas or sketchbook, artists use a mouse or tablet to display strokes that appear with the touch of a pen to the tablet’s surface.

What's the best way to send you my photo?
There are two ways you can send your photo to us -- through the regular mail, or via email attachment. Either way is fine for us, so choose the method you are most comfortable with.

Regular mail
If you wish to send your photo(s) by regular mail, simply place it in an envelope (with something sturdy, to protect the photo) and mail it to:

My Forever Pet
P.O. Box 541529
Waltham, MA 02454

Please send a quick email to let us know that you’re sending your photos through the mail. This way, we will know to expect them and we’ll be watching for them. When we receive your photo, we will scan it into our system and mail it back with your finished artwork. (If you would like to have your photos back sooner, please let us know.)

Email Attachment
A faster way to get your photo to us is to send it as an email attachment. Digital photos can be easily sent this way -- just be sure they are large and showing a lot of detail. A rule of thumb: if your photo takes up your whole screen (and then some) when you look at it on your computer monitor, it’s probably large enough. Remember; bigger is better.

What kind of picture should I send?
You should use common sense when choosing a photo. The photo should be reasonably sharp and clear, not over or under exposed, and there shouldn't be anything blocking important parts of your subject. The detail of the final portrait is directly related to the quality of the photos you send; in fact, it is advisable to send several photos taken at different angles including some close-ups. Objects such as collars and leashes can be omitted easily, or left in; whichever you prefer. NOTE: if your photos were professionally done, you will need to get copyright permission from the studio or photographer.

When will I get my order?
We generally require 2-3 weeks to complete your pet portrait. Please let us know if you need your work done sooner than this. We will try to accommodate your time requirements if at all possible.

How do I pay for my order?
Go to the “How to Order” page and scroll down to the bottom. Please click the PayPal button and pay with either your PayPal account or a credit card. If you would rather pay by check* or money order, please send it to:

My Forever Pet
P.O. Box 541529
Waltham, MA 02454

*Please allow time for the check to clear.

Will I see a proof of my portrait before you finalize it and ship it to me?
Yes! When your portrait is ready, we will send a proof via e-mail for you to review. You may make any comments or suggestions at this time. We work with you to make sure you are completely satisfied. If you do not like the proof, we will make revisions but after a reasonable number of changes, if you still don’t like it, we will just cancel the order and you will owe nothing.

Upon your approval of the proof, your portrait will be finalized and shipped out to you as soon as possible. Please note that your balance must be paid in full before we can ship your order. No refunds will be granted after your custom artwork has been shipped to you.
